Pathetic!

8 months without a post! How lazy is that? Thing have slowed a bit lately, so maybe I can get this "blog" back on track. Still haven`t built a decent cabinet humi, but I`ll get to it. Getting by for now with Tupperware/Rubbermaid and coolers. Thank God for humidification beads. They really simplify things.

I`ve been taking advantage of some beautiful Summer weather to enjoy my smokes like never before. Getting my inventory built back up - made a few purchases in the last week or so. Just received a cab of unbanded Tatuaje Verocu #2s from NewHavanaCigars. The deal included a nice Tat Hat, and Dan threw in an extra fiver of the Verocus to boot. Very nice! I`m going to leaved those sealed to age for 2-3 years. Also got a double-handful of Cabiguan Guapos and a box of (delicious) Pepin Black 1977 Coronas Especial from Holt`s.

Just made a trade with a a fellow from Pennsylvania for some of my beloved Por Larranaga Petit Coronas (as well as some other goodies) and a gentleman from Florida is kindly sending me some Don Collins (Puerto Rico) to try.

Time to go have a smoke;)

Win Some Good Smokes

Only a few days left to enter the contest over at Matt`s Cigar Journal. Some nice Tatuajes up for grabs.

"I am delving into my personal stash of my favorite cigars for this and I’m
giving away a premium Tatuaje Sampler. Three cigars worth approximately $30. You have a chance to win the following Tatuaje (Brown Label) cigars:"

1 - Havana Cazadores (very hard to find vitola and considered the best
in the line)
1 - Regios (the cigar that got me hooked on Tatuaje)
1 - Cojonu 2006 (eat a good meal first)
There`s a scavenger hunt involved, but it was fun, fairly easy, and I learned a thing or two. Go for it!

Blech!

I`ve had the slightest bit of a head cold this week and it`s screwed up my smoking. Everything I tried tasted worse than the cheapest drug store dog rocket I ever smoked. I gave up for about 3 days.

Tonight I fired up a low $ AF and it wasn`t too bad, so maybe the worst is over.

`Gars From Heaven

Well... actually Cincinnatti. Cigar Jack had a little giveaway contest the other day and I was the lucky recipient of six, quite lovely, Arganese cigars. Good looking (and smelling) sticks they are too. Thank you Jesse.

I was all ready to set fire to one last night when something came up, so I decided to leave it in the humi for a few more days.

Soon as my son returns the charger cable to my camera, I`ll post some pics.

Well...

...I didn`t get in as much smoking time as I`d planned this weekend, and it was a 3 day one at that. Just too much running, not enough of the necessary slack time, and I`m out of everything that`s suitable for a short smoke. Probably could have put the time spent on the computer to better use. Way too much time wasted drooling over `gars that I can no way afford just yet.

I did register on the Brotherhood of the Leaf and CigarLive
forums. Both appear to be extremely active and look as though they could be a lot of fun... and civilized. Think I`ll mostly lurk for a bit and learn, rather than jumping right in and making an immediate ass of myself.

The Dead Don`t Mind...

...if you smoke, that is. I took a quiet stroll in the cemetery this afternoon while enjoying a Partegas Black Label Clasico. The draw wasn`t what I`d have liked (I`m lazy) for the first few minutes, but then it seemed to loosen up a bit and turned out to be a very enjoyable smoke.

I wish I`d had a camera along. The ash I had going was about the prettiest I`ve ever seen. That stick was more than half gone and still it hung on - 2 inches of white and grey contrasting with an oily dark wrapper.

Might need to treat myself to a box of those.

How It`s Done - Start to Finish.

A little video showing Don Pepin Garcias being produced in Nicaragua. I really enjoyed this one.

Well, Here Goes...

Greetings to all who might stumble upon this humble excuse for a blog. I hope, in the months to come, to use it to document my return to the world of disposable income.
In recent years, the realities of mortgage payments, 4 children, college tuition, etc., have resulted in very few opportunities to indulge in the pleasures of hand made cigars, imported beer and single malt scotch. This will soon be remedied.
Within 3 months, I intend to construct a suitable humidor (gotta track down some Spanish cedar) I am open to suggestions on a suitable humidifier and hygrometer.
Within 6 months, I hope to have made a good start on stocking said humidor.
Within 1 year, I fully intend to violate the Cuban Trade Embargo;) (Canada`s not too far up the road)
In the meantime, I continue to stock my mind.
I`m grateful that beer and scotch don`t require as much fuss as cigars.
